Is it really a GTI?
« on: 29 November 2005, 11:37 »
The performance of my new Golf would pint to it being a GTI, it beats a brand new C2 VTR easily and has discs all round, but when I popped open the bonnet yesterday, it looks like the induction and exhaust are both at the back of the engine bay and not crossflow.
Could this be right, its a '88 GTI 8v.
Would that make it more difficult to mod for performance, although I would like to put in a forced 16v into there eventually.

I'll take some at lunchtime and post them, basically the rear of the engine has all of the inlet and exhaust ports at the back (facing the firewall), you'll see in an hour or so, though...

08.03.10 - 3, maybe 4 weeks, and I want my golf back on the road!

Yup it is ... same design as with the Mk1 and NOBODY can say that's not a GTI - it's the bloody original !

Phew....that makes me feel better, my first Golf GTI and not too sure what to expect with it, thanks for being so quick.
Might give it 6 months and drop in a 2.0 16valve though...
