Knocking noise anyone???
« on: 27 November 2005, 12:27 »
Right have recently fitted a set of Konis and I now have a knocking noise coming from the NSR its like the seat belt buckle is hitting the door card just a taping now and again but only from nsr and it seems inside??

I've pulled the seat belts across and plugged them in so i know its not them, the rear seats are pushed into place, parcel shelf is solid, i've made sure all bolts are tight on suspension and its not exhaust ... I dont want to have to take it all apart please dont make me

I've seen on another forum that a guy is selling a set of Konis still on the car, he says theres a slight knocking noise from the nsr do you think it could be a problem with dampers or axle bushes or  ??  im  getting pee'd off with tapety tap!!! And I have no radio so i cant whack it up

Not expecting an exact answer just anyone else suffer from similiar and change something to stop it??

I replace the axle bushes on mine. I put in polyurethane Powerflex jobbies. This got rid of the knock, but the top mounts then started, it was probably always there, but was drowned out by the axle ones. To replace the axle bushes is a complete sh1t, but as long as you've got someone to help, then you'll be ok (I didn't, so I swore alot instead!!)

when i lowered mine i got knocking noises all round when going over any sort of bump, it faded as the springs wore in but that may be a completely different story? if so then ill get my coat  :undecided:

Its amazing what you listen out for when you've got no stereo

So rear axle bushes next then is there anything else I should be replacing at the same time? I've already replaced the bump stops, when im next feeling brave its the wishbones and ball joints that are awaiting my attention makes it worse there sitting at work, its just so cold!!

Thanks For replies

nocking is deffo from the topmounts. It clicks because there is play between the top of the suspension and the bottom of the topmount. common on the fronts too

take the parcel shelf support off. undo the topmount and take everything apart.

now refit everything and make sure the bolts are proper tight. go for a test drive over lots of bumps

if it still clicks then fit some washers between the top of the strut and the bottom of the rubber mount to close the gap and stop the clicking noise.

i did mine last week. was proper annoying

I wouldn't say it would definitely be the top mounts, as I said my axle bushes were shot, and once they were changed the top mounts then started. I wouldn't recommend re-fitting the old mounts when they are only £5 a set brand new. If the knock is the top mounts, then change the lot, if you find that it isn't the cure, be prepared for bloody knuckles!
