Wheels spacers - what do you reckon?

Just wondering what peoples opions were on the pro's and con's of wheel spacers?

I saw them advertised and thought they might nicely bring my wheels out to almost sit flush with my arches, give it a little wider stance if you like. Do you think i would need longer wheel bolts?

if you don't go too wide you might get away without longer bolts but if in doubt i'd err on the side of safety and get longer ones.

i had spacers on my 17's and yes i had longer wheel bolts didnt wanna risk it it was 8mm on the back and 8mm on the front i think dont quote me on it.but yeh longer wheel nuts i think is a good idea depends on how far you wann space them by

Even if the bolts are long enough, I think you might find there's a good chance you'll cause the wheel bearings to fail prematurely due to the extra leverage/load exerted on them.

I think they would look good on there mate, like you say, will certainly fill the arches!

As above too, your probably safest to put some longer bolts on there just to be sure!

i HAD to put wheel spacers on my old polo coupe cause my alloys rubbed against the strut, i had two on the back and had to buy longer bolts too, to be honest tho i only did it cause i had to, it didnt look very good, the car looked abit trackter like cause they were so wide at the back, and i only brought them out like and inch, but on a lighter note ive still got 4 wheel spacers thatll fit a golf if anyone wants them, the bolts are no good unless you wanna chop them down abit cause they were made to fit thru 2 spacers

anything over a 5mm spacer and you should use longer wheel bolts

as every one has said, longer blots and all will be ok, make sure you use a torque rench and do them up properly to the right setting(no idea what it s though)l.

i put 8 mm spacers on the rear of my Mk 2, fortunately some of the wheel bolts supplied with my MOMO wheels were long enough to give the correct length,and made it look alot better IMO.

general rule is 2Xd and minimum 1 1/2 xd, my bolts are 12mm diameter, so ideally 24mm bolt showing from the face of the spacer and 18mm minimum showing from the face of the spacer.

as for torque i usually set them at 100 newton meters or 70-75 ft lb, with copperslip, which doesnt seem a lot but your better of with that than over tightening them.
