Wipe it off with a cloth?

Only kidding. Is it still leaking? May need a new gasket.

check your oil pressure switch, usually the seal goes around them, and oil drips down behind the filter and onto the sump.

I came on here to see if anyone else had a mystery oil leak.

Spot on diagnosis by The Slick Effect..... many thanks for this, it has saved my quite a bit of heartache in this cold weather trying to track the oil leak down. Having already done the sump gasket and to my horror still seeing oil leaking. Least it wasn't the gearbox as one garage diagnosed
