surely the suggestion of one large hole and some ducting would work better? much more fresh air that way - although the welded alloy thingemy does look lovely
...it is possible to run a cone filter on a mk1, but you need one of these:
which replaces the plastic airbox - they're a bit rare and you'd still be sucking in warmer air than the ducting suggestion.
BTW - the induction kit for a mk1 is a bit of an oddity, it's like a basket made of thick strips of metal and then lined with the foam used on some other induction kits - it is a replacement for the whole underisde of the original airbox... and would pull in EVEN more hot air as the engine side is all open!
