Central Locking Mystery
« on: 02 November 2005, 00:31 »
when i got my golf i soon discovered that the weird buzzing box in the boot was a central locking pump, i checked the air lines and got it working right, now a month and abit later i go out in the morning and sometimes i find my doors all unlocked?

so tonight i made sure i locked it and checked all the doors to make sure, low and behold i go to check it 4 hours later and its all unlocked again, to be safe i have disconnected one of the air lines so that my central locking wont work and that my doors remain locked,

has anyone els had this odd problem with the central locking and anyone know how to fix it? i dont see how its doing it, its locked and then after some time it just seems to decide its all going to unlock all by itself.

can you get air locks in the system??

Check the drivers side pump. could be that its not going all the way down and springs back up after a few mins maybe?

ill have a look, i dont really see whats going on or what ide hope to find, only thing that springs to mind is that part of the passenger side locking mechanism is taped on so maybe that isnt working right, but its only the drivers side door that unlocks all the others so i cant see how that would effect anything, its just weird,  could the pump be nackered? or would it not work at all?

well if the pump unlocks/locks the car then it should be fine.

Deffo something with the pump things in the doors.

if that dont work then switch the (+) and (-) wires around at the pump so it locks your car incase your forget

It must be something in the drivers door. Because even if the pump activated all by itself the drivers door would remain locked as it has nothing in it to push the lock open. For some reason the bit in the drivers door that activates the pump is going off. Could be a bare wire shorting but sounds more likely to be a problem with the rod not moving freely and popping back up intermittently. Get the door card off and have a good look. Strip it all and clean it and put it back together if you cant see anything. Also do you have an alarm that opens the door?
