What is a reliable brand these days?

Most things are built to not have major faults during their warranty period and after that it's a roll of the dice...
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

I’m with the advice given above Rosco82. Go for a warranty and at least take the big financial hit out of the equation for any future failures.  Go for the excellent value VW All In if you service at a Main dealer or just an extended VW warranty.  Pay monthly if you like.
Personally I wouldn’t run a performance Golf without a warranty backing. ( I’m not a mechanic or gifted with the spanners.)    I’ve done this since 2012 and enjoy the peace of mind.   I will keep a warranty in place until I sell my current 2019 R, would rather buy the cover than have the cost of a big failure.
All that said. If you’ve lost faith/trust and love for  the car then totally understandable if you just want out of it and VW. good luck whatever way you go
Gone. Mk6 GTI DSG, 2012 ,5dr , DPB, 18’s, Leather, Dynaudio, Cruise, DAB, Auto Mirrors, Storage Pack, TPMS.
Current. Mk7.5 R DSG, 2019, 5dr, DPB,  Pretorias, Leather, Memory Seat,  Climate Screen, Rear Camera, Black Caps

Totally agree always run all in or extended warranty on all our current and all previous VW's essential on any modern car imo as all repair costs are crazy.

Polo Blue GT we have had from new 2015 still under VW extended warranty 86k miles now FVWSH

Air con pump failed few weeks back sounded ternlminal went in to dealer. £1680  to repair warranty covered all the costs.

You may not need it but only one claim you will be quids in!

Thanks for the advice , I bought car as second owner and was still within 3 year warranty I really considered the car as pretty much bummer proof if well maintained, wish I’d looked into an extended warranty now ,anyway car got serviced this morning at approved vw specialist , interment fault showing on water pump although they said it tested fine they would recommend renewing at a cost of £1000 , that’s nearly £2500 in repairs in 18 months never mind the services I’ve had done since owned , I don’t think I have any option but to sell sell sell and quick before I have to do more work love my car but at this rate I’ll be in the gutter and car still won’t be right , thanks for everyone who took time to reply to me , hope your vw s fair better than mine
