Turbo noise on GTI

Hi, I have just taken delivery of a new 8.5 clubsport.  Really pleased with it - although the turbo makes a lot of hisses and whooshing noises.  Anytime I lift off the throttle, or when the car changes gear and the turbo releases pressure, you can hear it - sometimes it just happens randomly, but can be every few seconds. It makes no difference whether it’s in sport or eco.  I have driven lots of turbocharged cars before - I had a GR Yaris prior to this, and haven’t heard this before.  It doesn’t sound quite right although can’t imagine VW would send out a brand new car with a mechanical issue.  I contacted the dealer but they are a long way from me and weren’t overly helpful.  Anyone else driving a mark 8 GTI/clubsport who can tell me whether this is normal or not - I don’t want to waste the dealers/my time unless necessary!  Thanks in advance, Simon

Hi mate, i've noticed mine (8.5 GTI) making similar noises, i've had a 1.6T 200ps Astra before which didn't make same noises, i've put it down to the extra power, not noticed any detrimental issues.. did you take it to the dealer ?

I also hear this, I have a GTI 265ps 8.5. In sport the turbo whoosh is very audible however, I can't say I notice it as much in ECO/Comfort, but when turbo spools above 1.5 - 2 bar you can still hear it faintly.

I am not sure if the Soundaktor adds an element of drama to the sound? Have you tried putting it in Individual and setting interior and exterior noise settings to the least invasive

Hi, yes have tried changing the sound settings - makes no difference.  For me I reckon I hear it just as much if not more in Eco!  If it was just when lifting off after acceleration that would be one thing, but it’s odd the way it does it just driving normally, everytime the turbo adjusts when the gear changes, and even low pressure.  I’ll mention it at the first service but guess it’s normal - glad I got the Harmon kardon to help disguise the noise!

I’d imagine if there was a turbo fault/ issues you’d have warning lights already. For peace of mind is there a dealer near you that has a GTI/ GTI Clubsport you can pop down and check if that’s doing the same thing? Although if other owners have the same that’s probably a waste of time.drive it an enjoy it
