Tyres
« on: 17 July 2025, 12:05 »
1 slow puncture, 2 low treads and a trip to Europe means i could change all 4 tyres. If it was 1 or 2 then I would stick with what I have currently on the car - Bridgestone Potenza SOO5. Whilst at Goodwood on the weekend it looked like virtually every car was wearing some form of Michelins. They are all within £60ish of each other so putting price aside hopefully the vote will give me some idea to what members are running / going to go for....

It's much of a muchness between all the premium tyres in my experience.

I've run P Zeros, SC7 and PS4 on my MK7. I believe the P Zeros were the 4 since the 5 is pretty new.

P Zeros lasted a very long time and I've heard that from others too, they seem to have great longetivity. Some also love their profile as they seem to provide a slight bit more rim protection than others.

PS4 and SC7 I thought were both good in terms of grip and relatively similar in terms of longevity but a little less than P Zeros.

You can't go too far wrong with any of those. Most recently, Conti has been winning the tyre tests I've seen onine and so if I was buying now I'd go for either SC7 or P Zeros, but if PS4s happened to be cheaper, I'd happily go for them too. The PS4s have been around for a long time at this stage, so maybe the others are a bit better than them at this stage. Not sure how the PS5s compare.

For me on my current car I had the Continental SC5’s fitted when new which I think overall gave more grip but wore quicker, where as the Michelin PS4s I have had just seem to be a better overall tyre for everyday use. Less road noise and seems a better ride.

Consider Goodyear Eagle Supersports, I’ve got them on my Clubsport and they do very well. Had PS5s on my last car, also very good but rim protection lacking compared to the Eagles.

I'm a big fan of the PS5 for 225/40/18. If you go for them Michelin always run PIM Cashback offers, just upload your invoice and they send you cash

Get Michelin PS4S, Michelin PS5 or Goodyear Eagle Superports.

Bought Goodyear Eagle Asy 6 for my old S3 and was mildly disappointed in them.

Update: Set of PS5's have been ordered ready for fitting Tuesday! In the end the tyre wall (and recommendations) did it for me.

PS5 is pretty good. I found steering even more precise with them on MK8 GTI.
