Urano Grey
« on: 01 April 2025, 21:01 »
Any first hand experience as to what Urano Grey is like to look after long term?
Does it mark up badly? Show dirt badly similar to black?
I know it’s fitted to quite a few models other than Golfs so maybe we have some expert knowledge on here.

A colleague of mine is trying to find a mk7/7.5 GTI to buy and not having much luck finding something he likes.
Much as I’d love a (Madstaffs spec) CS40 to keep as a toy I really couldn’t be bothered with running two or more cars again, even ignoring the costs involved.

The web reviews are mixed regarding ease of keeping presentable, mark and swirl free etc. Personally, I don’t like it, but that’s just my opinion.

With Urano Grey being quite a dark colour, IMHO the same issues associated with any dark coloured car will apply;
  • it’ll show swirl marks unless a safe wash technique is used.
  • it’s likely to be a bit of a dust magnet and will show dirt similar to the way a black car does.
  • with VW using a light coloured primers, stone chips will be quite visible - being handy with the touch up paint would be no bad thing.
It’s not one of my favourite colours, but then paint colour choice is a very personal thing and there’ll be those people who don’t like my preferred paint colours.

Yes, thanks SR, my thinking too.
It’d probably be just about the last colour (after flat black) I’d actually choose but…

Personally, I don’t like it, but that’s just my opinion.

Yeah, same. There’s a mid range boring model Golf parked around the corner from me and it looks incredibly plain on that car, however on madstaff’s Ed40 it looks really good, and different. So maybe not a colour to be dismissed out of hand so long as it’s offset with the right spec.

Dark coloured and non-metallic so it'll show a lot of swirls especially with VW's medium hardness paint. Wouldn't be a colour I'd go for personally, tornado red is in a similar boat that being said although has a few worse bits as well being red.
