Rear brake pads question
« on: 23 February 2025, 17:53 »
Hi,
Removed the wheels on the golf yesterday to give the brake callipers a clean and noticed the rear pads have around 2.5 to 3mm of material left on them. I don’t have access to vcds so I’ll get my local Indy to replace them, my question is do I go with vw original pads or aftermarket pads. I’m thinking Pagid or Brembo but would these be as good as or better than vw pads,I’m not replacing the discs if that makes any difference. The aftermarket pads seem to be much cheaper but is there a reason for that .

ATE ceramic pads are a good low dust option.

Doing the rear brakes is a doddle and you don't need VCDS. Just undo the two 5mm allen bolts, remove the handbrake motor then wind back the spindle by hand. Unlike the fronts you don't even have to remove the carrier as you can pull the disc out sideways.

FWIW I went with TRW discs and pads from Autodoc.
