Hi all.  Turns out I have Park Assist Pro on my 8.5 even though I didn't order it.  VW changed the spec to include this on new GTI's after I ordered, but have added it to mine anyway.  What I didn't know is that you can park your car with your phone, stood outside of your car.  Registered it all today, but got scared to try it, thinking the worst case that the car would drive off our of control!!  Anyone here used that and indeed the Park Assist Plus memory feature?  Its all a bit of a gimmick I guess, but VW must have spent a fortune developing it, so I guess I will have to try it!!

My car doesn’t have park assist. If it did, would I use it? I very much doubt it, other than for the novelty / entertainment factor to demonstrate it to friends and family. Even then, I’d only do that in a wide open space to minimise the risk of damage to my car. If I lose the ability to park my car myself, then I’d question whether I should be driving at all :grin:.

I can see park assist could be useful when parking in a very tight space between two other cars. However, I would never park in such a space - if there’s limited space for the doors of adjacent parked cars to be opened, then that just increases the risk of parking dings and small dents being inflicted on my car, and that’s not a risk I’m prepared to take.

No doubt there’ll be owners whose cars have park assist and they use it regularly and find it really useful; that’s fine by me as we’re all individuals and like different things :smiley:.

SRGTD, I don't think it will park in a tight space. It used to on the MK7 need quite a comfy sized space or it wouldn't go. A space much larger than the smallest I'd ever attempt by hand.

Even though I have this on one car and use it, and find it decent there was on way I was ordering it on my Golf. I have to parallel park outside my house and it can't trust it not to catch the curb and ruin the black wheels. It's just not accurate enough.

Bloke in the neighbourhood parks his caravan with his phone - I assume a motor attached somewhere (!) but not seen him do it close up. I get it for that as would never be able to park it where he does otherwise.

But on cars....? Yeah, would be useful I'm sure in certain circumstances but joins the list of 'solutions to problems that don't exist' on cars these days.
