Anti Theft Devices
« on: 01 September 2024, 11:21 »
Good morning All,

Having recently ordered a new mk8.5 and hopefully will be picking it up in the next 2-4 weeks, i was wondering whats the best trusted anti theft devices for these cars please? I understand at times that regardless of what you do, if someone is going to steal a car then they will. I just wondered what things people have got to make it that slightly bit harder.

Have a great day - Thanks

Disklok.

https://disklokuk.co.uk/

And keep the key separate from the car key. Yes of course the man with the balaclava will win but it will deter the average thief and for me it acts as a visual deterrent to the opportunist, much easier to steal a vehicle without one.

And I turned off keyless when I picked the car up. For me those two things are as much as I need to do to sleep comfortably.

However the most important things to consider if you keep your car at home are home security and what you can do to improve on that, such as cameras and 3 star locks if you have PVC doors.

+1 Disklock, get a steering wheel protector sock and lay a folded micro fibre cloth over the top of the steering wheel before you put the sock and Disklock on - protects the leather from marking. Also the storage bag is useful. First post I put on this great site nearly 6 years ago was which size Disklock should I buy as previous one I had was a large - it’s small for a GTI 7.5 so I’m guessing similar for an 8.5.

Luckily I live in a very low crime area so when my R20 is locked up in the garage, its very safe. However, when i recently visited my brother who lives in Essex (a high crime area) I took some extra precautions. He blocked me in on his drive with his car which has disclock. I used disclock. I kept my keys (and his) safely hidden away in the house and disabled my keyless entry. Three of his neighbours have had their cars stolen in the last year. Mainly Range Rovers
If you can get your car out of sight thats a big help. Also be careful that you arent followed home.

Next time I buy I’ll be sure to get 3 year Back-to-List Price GAP insurance.  As well as Pandora / Ghost Immobilisor & Tracker.   So maybe a further £1500 region spend (on top of Service Plan ofcourse and any warranty extensions at that point).
Phew😬

I purchased a Pro Elite Stop-Lock. As with the Disc Lock,  its a visual deterrent with good capacity to foil the opportunist.
As many owners mention here, disable the Keyless entry option too. Mine is garaged at home plus uprated lock on the garage door. I always use a Signal Blocker pouch with the entry key permanently attached {Defender Signal Blocker mini}.
I am a bit OCD with where I park when out and about but it saves that awful "pit of the stomach" feeling as you walk to where you left it, trust me!
Hope you enjoy the GTI nonetheless.

Mk8 keyless entry isn't vulnerable like the mk7 or other makers...

Doesn't stop them coming for the key though. Not much does if they pick you and they are determined enough...

My Clubsport was stolen and I've ordered a new GTI. In preparation for its arrival I've built a 12 ft gate at the end of the drive which can only be opened by a scan of my left testicle. I've also erected a watchtower manned 24/7 by EX-SAS snipers with orders to shoot anyone who comes within a two mile radius of the car.

It's only costing me £135k a year but I'm buggered if anyone is going to steal my GTI again.

C'mon now Joet, that is way over the top! A 100 meter kill radius would have been plenty...
