Best suspension solution for MK7 GTI PP (DCC)
« on: 04 June 2024, 11:39 »
Hey guys

I have a 2014 GTI PP with the DCC dampers and VWR springs. It doesn't ride very well and with the appalling state of UK roads it only exacerbates the awful ride quality especially at low speeds.

I'm getting to the point where I'm getting a bit frustrated with the car. Don't get me wrong it's a fantastic car but I feel it's really held back and I often spend my time avoiding potholes / bumps in the road rather than actually enjoying driving the thing!
So I'm considering spending a bit on the car, refreshing the suspension and possibly going stage 1 to liven things up a little bit.

I'm looking at a good all rounder type set up for UK roads. I'd like to keep the DCC functionality although it's not essential. I'm currently thinking Bilstein B6 and OEM springs as this seems to be a well regarded set up. Only trouble is I don't have the OEM springs for the car as I bought it used already sitting on VWR's.

I've had the OEM springs priced up by a mate in the trade and they're pretty damn expensive, so that's holding me back..Can anyone suggest any options for my car? Perhaps there are other springs which are similar to OEM but don't carry the hefty price tag? I think with everything priced in B6's and OEM springs would cost about £1.7k+

Think what I might do is remove the VWR springs and just go with either some regular GTI springs or some Clubsport springs. Not sure if the dampers will still be in good nick but could be fine. Does anyone know is the Clubsport DCC adapative shock is the same as the GTI PP? If so, I think CS springs might be a good call..
