TCR Backbox on a Mk7.5 GTI PP - Improvement Over Stock?
« on: 10 September 2023, 18:55 »
Good Evening All,

I’m looking for some clarity on the TCR backbox.

I’ve heard that it’s a good “OEM+” mod to improve exhaust sound on your Mk 7.5 GTI PP. However, I’ve heard others say the difference is negligible if you have a OPF/GPF model.

For anyone who has done this mod to their GTI PP (OPF/GPF or not), was it an improvement? Also, what part number is the backbox and what other parts did you require, if any, for fitting?

Thank you

TCR or Clubsport S? The latter is the more popular mod as far as I'm aware and its what I did to my Mk7.

In short I love it. Its still sensible on normal driving, it now has a nicer, deeper tone on idle and a little bit more noise in general when driving normally, cold start is quite a bit louder
But when you get on it the thing comes alive and makes some proper noise. DSG farts have an anger to them and at higher RPM it makes an almighty crack on the upshift, you can also hear it burbling a little more on the overrun too.

R600, plus intake pipe and turbo elbow and a Clubsport S backbox. Sounds great now, a bit more noise but nothing asbo yet if you put your foot down it comes alive.

2016 Tornado Red GTI PP, DSG, Pro Nav, Dynaudio, Park Assist & Camera.
Mods: Revo Stage 1 ECU & TCU remap. Racingline R600 with Inlet pipe, turbo elbow and muffler delete. Clubsport S backbox. Eibach lowering springs. VBT Hooked discs and Racingline RP700 pads, braided lines and RBF660 fluid.
Protrack One wheels (18x8, ET45) 12mm spacer on rear.

CSS will require modification as the tips are further apart on the Mk7.5. That's why it's more common to go TCR.
