Pedal box - insurance cover withdrawn
« on: 10 August 2023, 20:09 »
I have had a pedal box fitted to my current (and previous) GTI's for the past 5 years with no problems at all (declared on my motor insurance policy with no additional charge).  However I have just come to renewal and been told they will no longer cover it.  Has anyone else experienced similar problems pls?  Can anyone recommend an insurance company which is still prepared to cover a pedal box?

I use a broker, A Plan. Their office in Thatcham deals with modified cars and they have always been helpful and have covered the pedalbox without a problem. I've not, fortunately, ever had to make a claim so can't vouch for how things would go when you need good service but with renewals and changes to my policy, they have been excellent. My renewal is coming up rather soon so I'll find out if it is going to be a problem or not!

Ah, hate to break it to you Watts, but I use A Plan too (and yes, for the past 5 yrs it's been no problem for me with them - today on my policy renewal call it was a straight 'no - remove it').  I hope you have better luck!

Oh dear, not good. I tried Brentacre last year who were very reasonable on the phone. A-Plan were very accommodating in the end so stuck with them.

I've used Brentacre for the past three years, they are a broker who will offer like-for-like cover on mods, only charge extra for mods that significantly increase performance (I have a stage 1 tune and it's not extra) and they have always been priced competitively for what they offer. Plus, their renewals have gone down, not up, each year, which is a nice change from Adm*ral

I've used Aviva for the last 4 years and declare the pedal box with no issues.

Got my renewal today from A-Plan and my pedalbox is still covered. Must depend on which insurer they are matching you with.
