DSG problems - no drive power

Hi, 

Has anyone suffered a fault similar to this on my 2016 GTD (DSG) this morning.   Driving along, car loses it drive power and large red “gearbox fault” light comes on and says select Park.   Luckily pulled into a side road and turned engine off.   Strikes it up again but will not come out of park.  Leave  it 5 mins and tried again. Car works perfectly this time and drive for 600 metres before car loses its power again.  I park up and call RAC.  RAC chap runs his tests on it and says it’s probably a the gearshift selector sender module at fault and the signal is not getting where it needs to.   

just wondering if this is known fault and cost to obtain a new unit?

Needs a full diagnostic as it happened as you were driving the gear selector was not being used at the time. Mine did it when doing around 60mph and by the time I could stop it was too late as the gearbox had eaten itself.

Get it taken to a good VW specialist to get it checked.

Thanks, Finglonga,  I don’t think I have any serious gearbox damage. Got the car parked up until until i get it into the inde VW specialist on Tuesday.

Hi Finglonga, got the car back, the inde VW garage cannot find any fault, had all the tech stuff on it, but nothing found.  They have had about 10 test drives and it drives perfectly.  I got  the report and all the fault codes from the RAC from  their diagnostics when they recovered the vehicle, but they did not help apparently.

Glad it's ok, wonder why it threw a wobbly in the first place.
