gear box issue.
« on: 07 October 2022, 00:28 »
hi guys

about a month ago i noticed when changing gear normally in first or second gear i heard a rattle that seemed to come from under the car to the left side ( im assuming i could hear it in these gears as not much noise due to slow speed )

so booked my car into the dealers today they have looked at my car and told me the noise is due to low gear box oil. this is a manual box on a 2020 mk8

i assumed the noise was clutch and not gear box as the noise is heard when pressing the clutch peddle down and releasing it. does this sound right that the noise could be from low oil ?

also will running the gear box for a month with low oil cause any short term or long term damage i need to be concenred about ??

thanks for any help.

I’d be more concerned about where the oil was leaking and why. Hopefully that issue is fixed?
I’d also be happier if they changed the gearbox oil to remove any swarf from any possible dry metal on metal contact when the level was low rather than a mere top up.

Has the noise completely disappeared now the oil level is back to where it should be?
