2019 PP new owner questions
« on: 06 February 2022, 23:20 »
Just purchased a 2019 PP which unfortunately didnt come with a manual or second key, have some questions i cant get to the bottom of,

1) key needs to be unlocked with the plipper and uses the key to start, assume this ISNT a keyless system and doesnt require key to be kept in a faraday cage for security? (I read somewhere that all 2019 cars were keyless)

2) mirrors, how can i stop them folding when car is locked? Tried turning knob to fold position but this didnt work?

3) bonnet sound deadening has gone floppy with white crust edges, normal, any ideas on best way to clean?

4) alternator and a few alloy parts have corroded, any recommendations for best way to clean them pls?

5) am i mad thinking of spraying suspension arms etc with acf50? (Used to use this on my Caterham)

6) any new owner top tips welcomed

Many thanks

Simon

Point 3……if car is less than 3 yrs old then replacement heat shield under bonnet is a warranty claim. I am on my third!

If you've got an actual key barrel to start then it's not keyless.
If you look in settings on screen I'm sure it's an option you can tick or untick for the mirrors folding.
As P6Gtd said under bonnet carpet should be a warranty item, fairly common issue.
Pretty sure you can view or download a manual from the owners section on the VW site.

@sjl - you can access an online version of the owner’s manual for your car on VW’s website at the link below;

https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/owners-and-drivers/my-car/manuals.html

You may find a used version of the owner’s manual for sale on the likes of eBay or if you want a new one, then your VW dealer should be able to order one for you.

If there’s only one key, I’d be concerned about who might have the second key and could still use it to gain access to the car. You should be able to get a new second key and get both the new key and the original recoded so the missing key won’t then work on your car.

I think you should be able to deactivate the ‘mirror fold / unfold function on locking / unlocking via the vehicle settings - accessed from the infotainment screen.

If you have a couple of weeks left on warranty I would go over car with a fine tooth comb and make sure you log any potential warranty issues with your local VW main dealer if the car was supplied by an independent.
I know it’s stating the bleeding’ obvious but the window of opportunity shuts soon.
Not all 2019 registered cars are model year 2019. Another way to tell is 2019 MY cars have reversing camera as standard.

1. 3 doors cars don't get keyless entry, 5 doors I believe it was April/May it became standard along with the rear camera.

2. You go through the radio to turn it off. IIRC it's Vehicle > Setting > Personalisation or else Mirrors.

3. As others have said warranty job, never comes up again.

4. You could use a brass brush that that's it really, definitely no liquids on the alternator.

5. Yes, use XCP Rust Blocker instead! It performs better in longevity tests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5LSxpoqcWo

6. Remove the Silica bag from your expansion tank if it has one and that's about it.

Its now booked in next week for the warranty claim and possible diff service. I am off to Scotland in it tomorrow so it will get some long runs before then to shake out any other issues. Am also ordering second key and instruction manual, hopefully thats the new owner chores sorted out

Car has reversing camera, dktb 483 and auzk on door plate, looks like its an MY19?

Glad it hasnt got keyless, much prefer manual approach to keys

Found setting for folding mirrors hooray!

6. Remove the Silica bag from your expansion tank if it has one and that's about it.

Providing a 2019 car still has the silica bag??

Dead easy, takes 5 mins for that extra peace of mind it's not going to split and cause you mega trouble.

Clamp off expansion tank lower hose, and fish it out.
