I got rid of my Golf 8 in Dec but still look in here every now and again.....
not once have I regretted getting rid of it and seeing a 2 page topic about adjusting the time pretty much justifies my decision!

I'm not surprised to hear that the car is still flawed but i am surprised to hear that you all still put up with it :-(
MK8 GTi: Adelaide 19", DCC, Winter Pack, Rear Camera and sh!t loads of software issues! ;-)

My car has been in four times now for various issues and yes it is frustrating and something we all should not have to put up with when buying a brand new car, however, this has not once made me feel like I want to reject the car as I still love it. The car has never not put a smile on my face from driving it, to living with the inside of it, to just walking back to it and loving how it looks. I know it’s all personal and four times prob isn’t as much as others have had to take it to the garage but I think I would still cope with it going back in some more times and still want the car! Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment!

I
Current car: Manual MK8 GTI 245, Deep black pearl.
Ordered: DSG MK8 Clubsport, DCC, Pure white.

I only started the thread for a laugh as voice control came up with a bit of weirdness when I noticed the clock hadn’t changed about 8 miles down the road on Sunday.
When I pulled over ten minutes later it took approx 20 seconds or less to set the clock via the settings on screen.

Definitely not grounds to divorce the car!

As a drivers car it’s fantastic.
As a tech device it is bit hit and miss at times but mine hasn’t been back to the dealers once in 15 months other than for an oil change.
Much of the “advanced” tech is just superfluous tat anyway, the driving experience is why the car was purchased and where it excels. If I wanted a mile muncher there are many better cars out there, but I bought a GTI to be used like a GTI, albeit usually stuck behind a dawdling pensioner or bloody caravan but it performs that role perfectly well too.

One of the reasons for me not moving to the 8 is  reading about things.  :embarrassed:
I know this thread was started as abit of light harted comedy at the UI but still.

The clock time in the Vauxhall I owned 30 years ago used to change automatically on the correct date to BST in the springtime and to GMT in the autumn.

Vauxhall used the RDS signal to provide the time. It would also adjust itself when driving abroad. I've got no idea why every car clock isn't set via radio/GPS.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

RDS is a simpler but old skool way of doing it.

GPS as I said sends time in UTC... so you need to set the time zone.

You could of course detect the time zone by GPS location, but that would be a complex piece of code...

Given their obvious inability to get simple things right, I guess the bar was a little too high to do that.
