Two different Golf R's?
« on: 03 February 2021, 12:22 »
From the user guide it lists these engines:

2.0 l, 4-cylinder TSI®, 180 kW
Power output 180 kW
Engine code DLBA
Maximum torque 370 Nm

2.0 l, 4-cylinder TSI®, 180 kW
Power output 180 kW
Engine code DNPA
Maximum torque 370 Nm

2.0 l, 4-cylinder TSI®, 221 kW
Power output 221 kW
Engine code DNFC
Maximum torque 400 Nm

2.0 l, 4-cylinder TSI®, 235 kW
Power output 235 kW
Engine code DNFG
Maximum torque 420 Nm

2.0 l, 4-cylinder TSI®, 245 kW
Power output 245 kW
Engine code DNFF
Maximum torque 420 Nm

I assume DLBA or DNPA are GTI engines (although why two different ones?)

DNFC is the clubby.

DNFG is the R.

What is DNFF?

Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

Just some stabs in the dark:-

The two different GTi engines are for manual and DSG cars respectively?

DNFF is either the R estate engine (meaning it's more powerful than the hatch), it's part of a forthcoming Performance Pack, or there will be some kind of Anniversary edition of the R when it turns 20 next year.
7.5 GTD

Yes, it could be manual vs dsg on the GTI.

More powerful R estate? I like the implications of that - "why have you got a hearse? because its mwoar powafull than da hatch"

Some people really do have too much time on their hands!

Interesting thoughts though, especially around the higher powered R engine and the possibility of an Ed20 Gulf Air (sorry, been watching German YouTube vids too much).

Knowing VW they’ll drop a 5 cylinder into the Golf R to celebrate so that everyone who has just dropped £50k into a 4 cylinder version will go purple in the face as that’s the sort of thing VW would do!!
A few bonkers ICE R’s wouldn’t go amiss as a defiant swan-song before the über quick electric versions take over our minds (but not hearts).

Mmmm, ID.4 R anyone?

I can’t see there being a 330 PS mk8 Clubsport S as it possibly goes against where VW are heading but never say never (pretty please VW)

Can you imagine if the 245kw was the edition 45? Mental.

When these figures first came out we all thought there would be a performance R with that power. We were half right I suppose
Current: Clubsport45, white, DCC.

Past: Mk5 gti blue graphite, mk6 gti carbon grey, mk6 gti edition 35 candy white, Mk7 pp gti tornado red, 2016 Audi S3 sportback, 2019 7.5 Golf R.

I just thought I'd paste that info into here. You know I love to read documentation :)

There has been a lot of speculation about an even more powerful engine and being from the user guide, it suggests it does exist and VW have plans to put it in something that is GTI or R - because this manual is for the GTI, GTD, GTE and R and obviously two of them don't have a big powerful 2l petrol turbo....

Ooooh maybe its a GTE Performance Pack lol!!! That would be funny.

VW don't appear to consider the GTE as a 'Performance Golf' on Das Weltauto anymore so maybe there's a 'hot' one to come........

Formentor? We have those at work... Not very sporty, I'd not want to be seen in one. Hard to get out again.

Blimey, I thought you’d posted up a pic of my boss’s belly there for a sec Fred.

If I’m not around the rest of the week it’s because he’s been spying on my forum use and I’ve been given my P45 so will be searching out a £50 mk4 Golf instead.
