Real world experiences of DLA
« on: 02 December 2020, 16:34 »
I have dynamic light assist fitted and have been trying it pout over the past few weeks but would like to know how you guys find it in the real world driving conditions.

I like the way the lights slightly move from side to side going around bends but I’m just a bit unsure of the auto main beam function.

I’ve just read that it only flicks to main beam if the light conditions are right and I’m going over 60km/h, what I’m unsure about is that it feels a bit like I’m playing chicken with the oncoming cars as to how late the main beam stays on before it auto-dips (dash goes from blue back to white).

At the moment I’m not risking blinding people and doing it myself…. maybe I should just leave it longer and see what happens, if the light doesn’t fully dip does it cut the light pattern so as not to dazzle?

I like the idea and have checked out the VW video on how in theory it works but maybe I’m not using it right?

I have it and love it, it creates dark boxes around cars to protect them from being blinded in front and oncoming. I have not been flashed using, but it’s amazing watching it work. If you are under street lights it turns off white symbol. I do feel it responds very quickly I assume it uses the camera to see the bright lights.

Thanks both, maybe I should have a bit more faith and leave it on and let it do it's magic!

I've been driving with dynamic light assist (DLA) for 3 years now. IIRC there is a list of conditions in the manual for when it will not work properly. Just remember the A in the dash headlight symbol is for 'assist' and not 'automatic'. You will soon learn when they work and when they don't.

For example they do have a range limit, don't work well in heavy rain, or if the vehicle in front has crap tail lights.

I thought my DLA was not working properly and had lost faith in it. It was generally slow and I was getting flashed at. I even asked my dealer to check it. I tried cleaning the glass over the camera. Then I was sitting in the passenger seat one night and noticed the left wiper was not properly cleaning a 6 inch band at the top of the windscreen. It is the left wiper that cleans in front of the camera. I had given my good Bosch wipers to my wife. So I took the left one back and problem solved. DLA is working properly again. :nerd:
