It's goodbye from me
« on: 23 October 2020, 22:55 »
Well after a lot of shall I and should I questions I have finally decided that the mk8 is not for me.

I have had 2 GTIs and an R over the last 7 years. Before that I had a BMW M3 and an Astra 888.

I really don't like the mk8.  The front looks droopy, the rear looks too square and the interior is just..... Well,  I am lost for words.

To my surprise,  I have bought an Audi A3 edition 1 in Turbo Blue. There is just something about the look of it that I find really appealing. Yeah I know it is a saloon and it is only 150 BHP.

I have to say that my 7.5 GTI PP is the best Golf I have owned,  even though it has less power then the R,  I think that it looks better and it is more fun to drive.

Anyway,  wiping the tears, I have really enjoyed this forum and found it really useful. The forum has lovely cars and everyone (well almost)  are really enthusiastic about their Golfs.  Yes I will miss the forum and you people,  but it is time for me to move on.

Thanks to all of you.  Keep safe,  stay happy and look after your loved ones.

Best regards
MarkT8

We came to the GTi from an A3 1.5TSi Black Edition.

The A3, particularly the new one, is a really nice car.....

But I couldn't be without the glorious 245 motor.......

I’m similar a mk6 GTi followed by a 7 GTi then an R and back to a 7 GTi

Not liking the looks of the mk8 either probably the A35 is the best looking of the current models but still really expensive.

I’ve just get myself a 2017 S4 with feels such a step up in every way.

Best of luck Mark.  For what it's worth I share your thoughts almost exactly.  I currently have a (fantastic) Mk 7.5 GTI PP DSG 5dr and am totally un-struck by the Mk 8 GTI - for all the reasons you outline.

Apart from the power loss , I think you have made the right choice. The more I look at the mk8 I realise how much better my 7.5 R looks in every way. Saw a new S3 in a showroom last week and I thought it looked fantastic. When I come to change next year I suspect it will be an S3 or an RS3! It won’t be a Golf!
