Nope, no mk1s had power steering from the factory, not even the later cabs. One of the companies that is on the VW scene does a kit for it (forgot who it is now) but it's apparently about £1100.  I have also heard that you can use the unit from a mk2 and DIY, but dont quote me on that.  :undecided:

Dont be a big girl, you only really need power steering for parking and lower speeds, other than that I can't see why it is needed.

......now officially dubless.

It would be easier thats all. I want to fit on my Caddy (diesel) with wheels! The steering is well heavy!

TSR provide a kit - but its not that great from speaking with a few people who have them installed - you can also get steering racks from a few other cars that will fit with some modd's on the mk1... overall though if you've got heavy steering - its properly due to your top suspension mounts are worn, tyre pressure is not correct, alignment of wheels not right, steering rack bushes are worn. I've got two cabs and my steering is lovely and light on both my cars - 14" & 15" wheels on mine. :) - after checking and replacing a few parts as I have listed.

There is alot of discussions on power steering on the following forum - http://www.vwcaddyforum.com/ I would go and find details on that forum as that is were I found most of the information I was looking for. Overall the cost of power steering I think for Mk1 is TOO MUCH..

Cheers. Si
