Slightly off topic but does anyone actually know the difference between the OEM roofbars for the 3dr and 5dr. I bought a 3dr set but they fit perfectly on my 5dr. They definitely have a different part number but the only difference I can see is the bit of card you get to wedge the rear window rubber of the 3dr. Anyone know any different?? Thanks

I can't see how that would work - certainly not with the Thule ones I have for my 5 door. The feet attach under the roof with the door open.

The VW rear bars foot is the same shape as the front minus the lug that the front bar foot slots into the hole under the removable bung. The bodywork on the under side of the rear door opening does not have the deeper hole but does have what I presume are the position markers. The rear bar wraps around and under the rear door opening to the same extent as the front. Like I said it fits perfectly and is rock solid. If it didn’t fit so well it would be obvious that there was a difference but there nothing noticeable  :undecided:

How was the RS4 when not worrying about space? I know they're very very quick, but was it at all numb? That's one of the complaints I hear about Audis in general
Without wanting to derail this thread and upset the anti 'quote post' brigade, it was a weapon. A fantastically smooth engine which was effortless in every situation and was/is the perfect engine for the 7 speed DSG to show iff its talents. The press moaned about the lack of low down grunt, but in reality that's bollocks. It's linear power that revved high and took you to warp speeds effortlessly. I specced mine with the sports pack, so it had the DRC, exhaust and bigger wheels, which really made the car more compliant and feedback was enhanced. It's a heavy car though, and you felt that. Not a track weapon, but more of a smaller & nimbler battle cruiser. All RS's suffer from a lack of feedback, but for it's purpose huge amounts of feedback wasn't needed (especially if you switched off the dynamic steering), it was a load lugger and point & shoot battler. Mpg was a killer around town (circa 15), but on the motorway it would return 25-30 all day long. I do miss it, but only for the noise the engine made. :)

Thule, that's what I always punt with. Definitely don't mark, whistle or fall apart. Plus future proof to some degree because you can swap bits to adapt to whatever car you get next.

This future proofing idea has sold it for me! The Cruz ones don't appear to support many models, whereas I can pay 200 quid for Yakima Whispbars for mine and pay an extra 30 quid for a foot pack to fit my partner's Mazda CX-5! Bargain!

Unfortunately the Thule ones were a bit more complicated to mix and match between our cars for some reason!
