How to clip rear view mirror back on?
« on: 15 March 2020, 10:08 »
Update // I finally got it back on . See reply below

Anyone have any tips for getting this damn rear view mirror back on?. I reached over to the passenger side and knocked it and it fell off so easily but it's an absolute pain t try and get back on and just doesn't seem to line up. I didn't know it hard or damage anything, guess I just hit it on the right angle to unclip it.
It seems like the 4 prongs on the mirror have to slot into the 4 parts around the brass-like circle piece on the rain sensor. But I just can't get it to push back on, been trying for 30 min.

Finally got it back on. It doesn't go back in straight. You have to put it in at up to a 45 degree angle and then twist it into place/straight. What a pain  and now I'm late!

I'll leave this post up in case anyone has trouble in the future

Yeah you put it on 45 degrees out then spin it into the correct position, if you try to put one side in then push the other you can break the little plastic clips on the glass resulting in a new windscreen

Hopefully this doesn't happen, but useful to know about if it does.

Thanks for posting

Good point, thanks. I've reworded it to make it more clear. It's a little worrying trying to put it back on because you can see the windscreen moving a bit, but I didn't use excessive force and it goes in relatively easy once it's aligned.

Also make sure you take the plastic cover/trim off that goes between the mirror and to roof lining. The cover is 2 separate pieces and  is a lot easier when it's off. Just squeeze together to separate

Once you know it’s a good design and doesn’t normally fall off when you bang it,

Yeah I guess it's not too bad  no idea how it fell off so easily, must've just been bad luck knocking it at the exact angle.

It was driving me insane though. I could see the slots when the 4 pins went but it just would not go in. Took less than 2 min once I knew i had to go in at an angle first.

Yeah the first time I refitted one I struggled too, and managed to clip the first few by brute force and ignorance 😂🤣😂
