Golf R lease

Looking at getting a Golf R DSG on lease and have some questions.

Is it worth taking a maintenance plan? Anything else more need doing from Gti’s/GTD’s
Will it get through rear tyres more with it being 4 motion?
How often are services? And what are the prices?
What MPG are people getting?

I’ll be doing 12k pa on a 3 year lease.

Golf R tyre wear is exceptionally good. My Michelin PSS were not even 2/3 done in on the front or rear with over 22k miles on them when I sold it. You could possibly get 35k miles out of the tyres on the front and the back, unlike a Golf GTI/GTD that could chew up front tyres in as little as 12k miles. My Polo GTI+ looks like the fronts will last 15-18k miles tops.

No extra maintenance costs in the timeframe you'll have it except Haldex fluid will need changing at 30k miles, it's an £80 job if the car is already in for a 30k mile service. Other than the Haldex, everything else is as per any other Golf - air filter and oil changes and should cost the same as per GTI/GTD.

I used to average 33mpg in my 2015 Manual R, and DSG is generally 10% thirstier, but the 7 speed DSG is better on the juice than the old 6 speed. MPG is completely subjective though, dependent on commute length, congestion and driving style.

Haldex needs servicing regularly, if it's a lease car then servicing will be every 20k miles (way too long). Not sure why it would get through rear tyres quicker, I'm sure R owners will be able to answer that in more depth.

Had my R 10 months now. Can’t comment on the R tyre wear but my S3 tyres were still ok after 25k so I’d expect similar from the R.

Mpg wise I find it quite unpredictable. So many factors as already said. I can get 36mpg on my way to work as traffic is a bit quieter but in the way back I’ve been as low as 19mpg when stood in traffic. I only have a 15 mile commute. I average 300 miles per tank. Strangely my mpg has been a bit better when using the paddles.

220 miles from £20. I remember those days. It was about 1996 and I had a '91 1.0 Polo Coupe.

I imagine the OP will be in for a bit of a shock.

Back in 1996 I sold my beloved black 1991 Golf GTI with the aim of getting a VR6 but couldn’t find a tidy one so ended up with 1993 Polo G40. The little Polo was the best pure fun car I’ve owned to date.

Both the 112 bhp mk2 GTI and 113 bhp G40 did around mid 30’s mpg long term average which is basically the same as I got from my 2013 GTI PP with more than double the power and loads more weight! Progress eh?

The Golf VR6’s I eventually got to own (2.8 litre 174 bhp) strangely did almost exactly the same mpg average as my 300 PS 2015 Golf R which was high 20’s to 30.

I've also been looking to upgrade to an R from my GTD when my lease ends (in july), but have been told by my local dealer that this isn't possible due to the mk8 being released and the order book closing on the 7.5's. So then i tried the Carwow app, and surprisingly it came back with lease offers on R's, so rang the cheapest guys offering cars and they said there was a limited amount of VW stock available (25'ish cars) to lease, all white, dsg, 5 door cars, but they were getting snapped up quickly, this all happened before Christmas, just checked Carwow now and cars are still available through the app, but up £30 a month since l last looked. Be interesting to see if you can order a car, l was looking for roughly 2k in over 36 months and 15k miles per year, £384 per month at the mo, Wrex22's terms result in a 2.2k deposit and £381 per month.

The order book closed last week on the 7.5 Golf, I know as I was about to order one and it was literally overnight....I managed to get a brand new one from stock. (Was a TCR BTW)
