I've got a K & N panel filter in mine and put it on when I got my exhaust, it certainly felt more responsive but this might be down to the combo of the exhaust and filter that made the difference together. I can't for definite say it's done a lot or not and I've never had any of the other makes to say if they are good or not but I deffo think it's more responsive than it used to be. At the end of the day, they replace the old paper filters, are cheaper in the long run and are a better quality so you get your money back after a couple of full services as you dont need to change the air filter so you've nothing to lose in my book. For a mk1 they are only about £32.

I rate the K&N panel replacement. Free flowing and pay for themselves if you plan to keep the car, virtually maintenance free! Not had the others so can't comment.
