Funny Sound, and funny handling

Hiya,

Lately I have been heading knocking sounds, apparently from the base of the steering rack. And also its jerks and rattles quite alot around bumpy corners and during wheelspin  .

Is it bushings? or tie rods? or steering rack?

Oh its a MK2 driver with no PAS.

CV joints?

get the front up in the air, do some checks.

move the wheels by hand side to side, if play then fault in rack somewhere or track rod ends. up and down wheel bearing/top mounts

also check the engine mounts, lower arms for any play. roll bar bushes etc.

Just remembered that on my mk2 gti the alen key bolts had a tendency to work them self lose.

Broke down once on the side of the road because of this,had no drive as the drive shafts came off the gear box lucky enough i had my tools in in the back

quite common that. specialy on a lowered ride
