99 octane fuel
« on: 07 October 2005, 10:44 »
It says in the owners manual that I should be running my golf cab on super unleaded, what's the benefit of this? I am currently using normal stuff and it seems fine. Is it possible to set up the timing to retard the ignition for better performance? I know the higher the octane number, the more likely th fuel is to pre-ignite, but I thought that was more about the compression ration rather than the timing? Oh, I've also discovered that Greenergy are marketing a 99 RON fuel at selected tesco outlets (I'm doing some work in the Renewables Sector). They use Bioethanol as oxygenators instead of the usual aromatics (benzene toluene etc), and this has the effect of raising the octane number of the fuel. So go green.......

seems to be a big thing on where you buy your petrol, different octane, quality etc one chap reckoned change your timing to -4 TDC but dont know if theres any benefit when using higher octane, worth a blast i guess
