Accident - some assistance please
« on: 01 September 2018, 15:24 »
Had a accident last night in my 6 month old GTI PP

Low speed maybe 3 or 4 mph reverse into another car- it was my fault.

Need a new rear bumper, but the thing I cant get is the exhaust tips are not level . The left hand side is almost 1cm lower than the right. No damage to the tips checked underneath and everything seems as it should nice and solid. And looking at the other car, the tips wouldnt have touched the other car as they are below the front bumper line.

Anyone with a 7.5 mind checking if your exhaust tips are level, I cant remeber if it came like this from the factory or not.

Are you measuring up from level ground, or do they just look on the skunt because the bumper is out of line?

You might have bent a hanger, so best to adjust that when the new bumper is fitted.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Bugger  Sorry to hear that. Are you sure it's not the bumper that is distorted rather than the exhaust having moved?

Thanks for the replies guys

I cant find a completely flat bit of ground near me but measuring relative to the bumper being out, I think it doesnt look level because the bumper is a bit skewed now

Sorry for the stupid topic, should have thought about that before

Not having a good weekend lol

Sorry to read about the shunt - I hope it gets fixed soon.

I have just measured my GTI PP - on a level brick surface and they both measure 9.5" to the bottom edge of the tips.
Hope this helps.

Didn't the auto brakes kick in?

I remember when I first got my 7.5 and I was reversing and they kicked in, thought i'd hit something because of how harsh they brake.

You have to watch out with that manoeuvre breaking thing...(its only on the Mk7.5 btw) the ultrasonic parking sensors are slow to react when you move. If you aren't going really, really slowly then they won't detect in time, plus small objects like a post may not be always detected.

I once reversed into a road works sign opposite my parking space - the sensors didn't pick it up....

The system does work.... sometimes.

Yes, I have also noticed there is a lag with the parking sensors. Have to go a bit slower just in case. My mk6’s sensors were much more responsive.
