DTD/Carwow/Orangewheels Dealer Trade In Offers
« on: 29 June 2018, 12:11 »
Apologies if this has already been covered.

Does anyone have personal experience of trading in an existing GTI against a new GTI from one of the dealers supplying via these “dating agencies”?

And......does anyone have evidence of lower trade in values offered as a result?

Sorry, can't offer any evidence but if buying through DTD, etc then I would expect the dealer is cutting their margins down to the wire and will only be able to give a low value for a PX.  I suppose at the end of the day it's the price to change that's the bottom line so would not get too hung up about focusing on the px value.

I would suggest you try to off load privately (maybe through the forum) or getting a WBAC, Evans Halshaw quote.  I've paid slightly over for a decent car with a careful owner, some decent options so trying to sell privately would be my first port of call.

Not with a GTI going in, but my 2015 1.4 Match

I’m trading in at the end of a PCP deal and getting a few hundred more than the settlement figure.  About the same as they offered when they offered to just take it off me early.

Didn’t affect the carwow price.

I don’t think Drive the Deal do part exchanges, although once you’ve been put in contact with the VW dealer by DTD, you could always ask them if they’ll offer you a part ex price. However, as rjwojcik2 has said, its likely to be a low figure.

In addition to WBAC and Evans Halshaw, it’d probably be worth trying Tootle, where dealers will offer competing bids for your car, and you can sell to the highest bidder.

Tootle is a good suggestion, I've seen a few positive reviews of them on different forums.

CarWow tend to be via dealership retail departments so will offer part ex prices, it'll vary between dealers whether they offer you a low book price or a higher one depending on whether they want the stock and how much money they have in the deal.
I've personally had some decent offers through this route.

A lot of brokers operate through fleet departments so won't have part ex facilities.

I sold my GTi on tootle got around £500 more than I got offered via trade in, it sold to a main dealer.

Tried my A4 black edition a couple of months ago WBAC offered 15k Tootle only got to 15.5k ended up selling it to Evans Halshaw for 16.8k so it pays to try them all.

Thinking about the same trade in question myself.Done a build with Carwow and Ingram VW Ayr were the cheapest out of quotes from dealers as far away as Southampton.I've heard they are always up for a good deal.
Also in addition to the usual buy your car routes.Since you're in Scotland try www.wewontbuyanycar.com

I used CarWow to find the best prices for my present car including all the dealer added extras and a trade-in of my Mk5 TDi (imac. 68k & 2 owners) cash purchase.

I then took the lowest prices to my local dealer and said 'beat that and you have the order' and he did!

Simples.
Tip; speak to the organ grinder not his monkey ie; the oldest salesman.
