new member and problems already
« on: 01 July 2018, 22:33 »
hi new member here and hoping you can help me out with some strange goings on on my golf gtd ive recently purchased.

so ive had this car a month its a 16 reg with 17k on the clock and im loving it.
but for no reason i can see the keyless entry no longer works.
i can unlock it with the buttons on the keyfob and it will also unlock if i hold the keyfob in one hand and just touch the door handle with the other hand but a couple of days ago it unlocked just by being near the car.
i thought it maybe the battery although vw put one in 9 days ago while i was having the cruise control box in the front bumper re-calibrated.
i then tried the other key and thats exactly the same.
then today ive noticed the drivers side window wont auto down or up.
that definately worked ok aswell but no more, it will only go up and down in increments, the passenger side is fine though.

ive been through all the settings and reset the window settings to factory default to no avail and as for the keyless problem ive run out of ideas.

Any ideas how these two issues have manifested in the space of two days before i have to book it in again at vw?

many thanks

You should be able to re-teach the car Auto up/down on the Windows by holding the up/down buttons down the whole way once or twice.

As for keyless (never had it) sounds a bit strange. Suspect someone will tell you to run a check for faults via OBDEleven or VCDS. Sounds like a flat key battery to me but you’ve got that covered and have the same problem with both remotes which suggests the car not the key is at fault.

NOt had the same keyless issues as you, however I have had the drivers side door 'forget' it has auto up/down on it occasionally, however fixed numerous times with the fix shown above.

Have you tried locking and unlocking the car manually with the key in the lock to reset the central locking?

Haven't had any issues with VW's, but this worked for me on a Ford Focus when the central locking froze.

With regard to the keyless entry - I'm not 100% sure I'm understanding what you mean...

Do you mean that it works normally (IE, you can unlock and lock the car with the door handle or the keyfob) but in addition, the car seems to sometimes unlock itself just when you're near the car?

yes im certain that it worked that way
i normally stand next to the car just holding the keyfob and not touch the car and it would unlock.

but now i have to touch the door handle with my free hand and the keyfob in the other for it to unlock
of course i can just unlock it with the buttons on the keyfob from anywhere in range.

it def used to unlock as i approached the car once i was in range without touching the car or using any buttons on the keyfob

My keyless entry has never worked that way. You have to grab the handle to unlock the car otherwise surely it's a security issue.

Mine has never unlocked itself without either pressing the button or putting your hand inside the handle.

Likewise it's never locked (apart from the timer if you unlock it and don't open the door) without a button press or a touch of the handle.

I just leave my key in my pocket and put my hand onto the handle to open the door it unlocks on contact
