Yes car manufacturers are rubbish at this stuff.

They believe that you buy a new Xbox to get a new game.

The latest iOS update does appear to accommodate the wireless function but it doesn't work for me (using the voice activation) and I can't see it working with my existing set up.

That said although CarPlay is a bit limited they are paying attention to it as each iOS update lately does seem to add something. The "up next"  in the music app was a recent add which works well.

I'm hopeful more apps will be added soon.

I presume the discover screen is just acting as an additional display really. So future updates will be handled by the iOS on the phone, meaning new features etc will work regardless of how old the car is.

Be nice if you could physically see messages on the display if the car is stationary rather than having Siri read them. They could possibly use the phones movement sensors to determine that and add it in an update.

On my Galaxy S7 using Android Auto, it not only shows you the message in text form (as your driving), but can read it to you as well. Not sure that's good for safety though

Funny thing is that my old RNS510 would read out my text messages and let me digtate the reply without touching the phone when I had a Nokia 1520 Windows phone.
