Golf Gti Mk7 Winter wheels
« on: 28 September 2016, 19:12 »
Im looking at getting a set of winter wheels and tyres for my golf gti, new to this as such and not very technically minded, would these fit my car http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/skw.pl?bestellnummer=8667--R-314280&cart_id=59710894.110.24864&dsco=110&sowigan=Wi&csuchen=1&Gmarke=&Gdub=1&Ggroesse=205/55%20R16%2091H&Gfelge=16%20inch&Gf_last=16%20inch&achse=A&Hersteller=VW&PKWtyp=GOLF%20VII%20GTI%20BLUEMOTION&felge=16%20inch|5%20x%20112.00%20x%2057.00|5|46.00&PKWtypgenau=%3A528633%3A%3A1984%3A162%3A201305%3A%20%20%20%20%20%20%3A57.00%3A112.00%3A5%3AAU%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%3A%3AP%3AE1%2A2007%2F46%2A0623%2A..%20%20&my_1_car=VW__GOLF%20VII%20GTI%20BLUEMOTION____:528633::1984:162:201305:%20:57.00:112.00:5:AU%20::P:E1*2007/46*0623*..#more

Also wondering if anyone else has experience of changing the standard set up for winter wheels and tyres.

Thanks in advance
Stu

Plenty of folk now appreciate the benefit of fitting winter tyres.

I can thoroughly recommend www.mrwintertyres.co.uk for tyres and wheel combinations.

Good prices and rapid delivery from my experience.

I've been using winter tyres for some years on both my cars, started when I went to Denmark (where our daughter lives) as they are compulsory between Nov and March there.

As I live in the south, we don't often get a lot of snow, but have to deal with low temperature and damp roads, so I have opted for the same size wheels, 16" for the Touran and 18" for the Golf.

I bought secondhand OEM wheels for the Touran and found a set of BBS (Audi) wheels for the Golf. Both are fitted with Nokian tyres, which are really good and reasonably priced. Fortunate to have space to store two additional sets and the advantage is the other than the cost of the wheels, your other tyres last longer.

I use A3 wheels (2nd hand) and Nokian A4 winter tyres in 205 55 16.
Good compromise and despite narrower tyres you end up with more grip than summer tyres when it's cold and damp, let alone snow/ice.
