Quick question re Car-Net
« on: 21 June 2016, 15:27 »
Hi guys (and girls). I have Car-Net activated and working fine on my 2016 GTD, and I can view all the various Car-Net apps as well as send destinations to my car etc. However, I've just been on the VW Car-Net website (as I needed to send a new destination to the car for this weekend), and for the first time I noticed after I logged in, on the landing page (with a view of my car), that there were some details on mileage, range, and time / mileage until service, which I'd never noticed before (as below)

However if you look, it has the mileage at 36 miles and the last time this was updated as the 17/5/16, which I think is the date I activated car-net in the car for the first time. There's a warning exclamation at the top which when clicked on opens this:

I know it's not essential, but anyone know how to get this link between the car and the site working again. I usually have my phone in personal hotspot mode, and that pulls in Google street view, google maps in the nav etc, and on line Car-Net data (petrol prices, weather), but it doesn't seem to update to the car-net website even though that site sends new destinations I create automatically to the car ?

You need to "create a new report" or something like that. There's a button on there somewhere to do it. Then when you next startup the car / radio, and it's connected to Wifi / hotspot, it'll create and upload a new report to that portal. I only vaguely remember, as I tried this once and never looked at it since. It's all a bit pointless though imo... as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.

The only semi useful feature of the whole thing is the ability to upload map destinations / POI's.

Thanks Joe, just found that button on the Car-Net website. Just like to play around with these things.

I have exactly that same issue with the new GTi I bought on July 30th. It grabbed mileage and time to next service etc. when I registered it but nothing since. I can also send the car POIs and RSS feeds and all that good stuff but generating a report does nothing at all. I have been talking to VW Support about it and the guy I have spoken with says that mine is just an isolated incident and that I should have the car looked at - I really don't want to lose my car for a day or two for something this trivial.

Why not give the same guy a call on 0800-333-666 and ask for Anthony? Tell him that you know he has already spoken to someone called Geoff (me) about the same issue. Of course, if you have fixed it, please tell me how.
