3 problems. HELP!!!
« on: 17 September 2016, 20:08 »
The car is a 2000 mk3.5 cabrio
I have 3 problems and wanted to check with you lot that they are bot 'common' problems i can sort myself before having to report to proffesionals.

The 1st issue is that when at very slow speeds i turn the wheels to full lock, there is a nasty rubbing and sqealing sound coming from the front. The tyres arent rubbing anyehere so it cant be them. Any ideas?

Also the passenger front electric window doesnt work. It wont work using the drivers side button or the passengers. What do i check first? Again common issue?

The last issue is that there is quite a load grinding type sound coming from the rear when under slow braking. Ie in slow moving traffic. It sounds like the brakes are binding or something but the brakes have been checked and all is good.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

1 = loose power steering belt

2 = duff motor , mechanism .Try taking door card off and bang motor whilst pressing switch (ignition on obviously).Has car been stood a while ?

3 = no idea without viewing, could be rust on outer or inner edge of disc only coming into play when brakes applied,if pads and discs are low they can grind on the lower edge of pads where rust builds up around the centre hub part of the disc .

Re window, wiggle the connection plug inside the door, mine did that, I had to remove the plastic sliding cover off. No cost. Good luck.

Definitely loose power steering belt.

Check the cables in the door loom at the hinge can snap within the rubber boot - this is a lot more common than window motor failure.

Handbrake mechanism likes to stick on, this can cause grinding sound  -suggest adding return springs onto the caliper handbrake lever
