Ipod fitting for MK5 and CD Changer
« on: 06 October 2005, 16:55 »
Hi all,

I got the optional CD Changer mounted in the armrest of my Golf and want to know is there any way to also connect an Ipod in as well without having to lose the CD changer?

Thanks for any help or ideas.

Hi,

I have been looking at this too and it seems if you got 6 changer or Navigation then you cannot retro the iPod connector. Have a look through GTI forums on tyresmoke.net - they have a few threads on this. I asked stealer here in Ireland and it is not option here but will likely be retrofit later if on single CD unit.

It is standard in european models etc now but do not think it in UK or Ireland (where I am) just yet.

Hope this helps.

I have the 6 disc changer in the arm rest but have had it disconnected as I have a Dension Ice link installed and this uses the CD changer port on the back of the stereo. So, in answer to your question, no you cant have both but you will still have the use of the single front loading CD player so will get the best of both worlds.

Thanks for the info lads.

GTIMK5 - where do you have the ipod installed for your denison? Just wondering where you have it placed in the car? Also, I presume the ipod sound quality is as good as CD quality?

Cheers.

I have it mounted to the left of the stereo. I bought a bracket that clips in so no drilling is required etc. You can have it fitted in the glove box but I prefer dash mounted as you can see the ipod screen and also switch to the ipod UI if need be.

The sound is as good as CD's if not better imol.

Link below shows a phot of the installation.
