I would think a securely locked garage with the car out of sight is the best deterrent.
Doesn't security lighting coming on all the time just highlight where the car is kept?
After a while people tend to ignore security lights and alarms going off.

I'm of the age to remember that parking in a garage was probably the worst place to park.
It gave the thieves all night to work away undisturbed while they tried to break the steering lock and hot wire the car.

Not if the garage is properly alarmed up in the first place.

Having your garage alarmed won't stop them breaking into your house in the middle of the night looking for your keys.

No but if the house or garage alarm go off you may find it deters them significantly from looking any further for the keys. An alarm in the middle of the night would deter most thieves especially if the house is occupied.

If they want it they will get it - that's the basic rule to work to and why we have theft insurance.

I'll need to read my alarm instructions to figure out how to set my alarm when I'm in bed. Zone 1 or whatever it's called.
I've never felt the need before but I may have to change my outlook.

Someone I used to work with had his  house broken into twice, the first time his Sierra sapphire cosworth was stolen  (probably stripped) but he replaced it with another  and started  keeping the car keys in the fridge, the second time they didn't steal anything.
This was about  1995-97 ish apparently.
