Painting my headliner

I'm looking to paint my headliner black as I have black pillar trim. And I don't want to pay to have it reupholstered. What sort of paint would you suggest.

Have you stripped and sanded it yet?  Once prepped you'll see that paint choice isn't really important because the prepped surface is terrible. IMO re-upholstering the headliner is a pretty easy job and a far superior finish. If i remember rightly there are existing threads here that cover this subject, do a search and you'll probably come across a 'how to'.

i was thinking more like dying the current fabric rather than stripping it back.

I'd dodge paint completely in that case; just go for fabric dye.

The existing foam and adhesive may not cope very well with any tampering though, be it paint, dye, cleaning etc.

By the time you have paid for decent dye and put it all back in you will be wishing you had paid the extra and bought proper material and proper spray adhesive (cheap adhesives won't be up to it,you need high temp stuff).

Last one i did cost me about £60 and i did the abc pillars as well.
