Swamp in the boot!
« on: 24 November 2015, 20:16 »
GTi went in for a service 2 weeks ago, and said it needed to come in due to "water ingress" in the boot.  I had a look myself the following weekend, and sure enough there was about 1cm of water in the spare wheel well and it was sopping wet.  I dried it all out and it's been in the dealers today investigating.

Got a phone call to say the boot was full of water again, (after 2 days) and they wanted to keep it overnight to do pressure tests on it.  Never had this before, has anyone else?

Cheers Watts, that's exactly what my hinges looked like, only I had 2 tadpoles living in it! I'll give the dealer a ring tomorrow and see what they say.

Took 2-3 days to find the leak. It's not noticeable as the trims in that area and along the C pillar are hard plastic so the water just runs down the outside of them.

It was the left hand hinge on my car. The right hand hinge had been adjusted in the factory after paint (the paint on the bolts was damaged and the dealer said they didn't adjust the boot). This probably broke the paint around the left hinge allowing the water in.

You'll have to take out the carpet or it will take ages to dry out. I took out the carpet and spare wheel straight away when I discovered the leak.
