Finding the right Weber for a Mk2
« on: 25 October 2015, 22:10 »
Hey guys,

Seen a few Weber kits for a MK2 Golf, yet I'm a little unsure into whether I'll be buying the correct one to fit my MK2.

I have a 'MK2 Golf GL, 1.8, Manual Transmission'.

Seen a few which mention 'Jetta/Golf/Scirocco 1.6' 84 onwards... Some say '1.6-1.8'.... Some say 'Replaces 2E2 carb (I have a 2E)... etc

Is there a serial/reference number to follow for my Mk2? Would a '1.6 Weber' function correctly on a 1.8?

Thanks,

They (should) have different jets in for 1.6 and 1.8 applications (as do 2e2s which is what you have as I told you the other day). The jets are easily changed on the Weber, so you could buy one for a 1.6 and re-jet it for your car. Much simpler to just buy one that has the right set-up to start with though.

unless your after every bit of power out of your engine you probably wouldn't notice any difference running a 1.6 carb on a 1.8 engine. I had a mk2 astra 1.4 carb on my 1.6 driver and it went spot on. mind you the astra 1.4 and driver 1.6 were both rated at 75bhp so that probably helped a lot.
