sport mode engine and sport mode DSG

Apologies for the newbie question, what does sport mode engine and sport mode DSG (S1, S2 etc) do to the GTI? Is it that sport mode engine picks up acceleration faster than normal mode, and that similarly sport mode DSG holds the revs higher before upshifts? Thanks,

Engine changes throttle response, steering suspension if you have DCC and the sound acuator.

Gearbox changes the speed of the shift and how long it holds onto the gears. Also in the R it opens up the outer two exhausts

Also it does change a few random things like ACC pickup speed, Aircon and the dynamic headlights.
