handbrake part

Anyone know what this part is for?

I found it connected to the rear of my handbrake just in front of the cables, which were themselves incorrectly fitted (the locknuts had spun off and the longer adjusting nuts were behind the clamp - serving no purpose).

Looks like a previous botch of sorts. There's a similar item on an Ifor Williams trailer I have at work where 1 cable from the handbrake joins another cable what connects both brakes, like V brakes on a bicycle. If your handbrake is working correctly now I wouldn't be worried about it.

Yeah that sounds about right, it's odd though because I assembled the handbrake mechanism correctly without having to replace any parts or fix anything...perhaps the PO just didn't know how it was supposed to go together!
