Small oil leak from around the turbo...
« on: 22 August 2015, 22:01 »
Just had the car back from MOT today and all was fine apart from they reported a small leak from "around the turbo"

Any ideas where the most common places are to look for leaks?

All depends where the oil is. MK6 GTI suffer from oil leaks around the turbo, its not always from the turbo.

They can leak from the air intake / PCV valve above the turbo (the small pipe attaching to the main intake pipe, and also they can leak a bit of oil around the recirculation valve / DV Valve which is attached under the car next to the turbo. Which can be an indications its split and needs changing, (£35)

Best to locate the source of the leak first
MK6 GTI CSG | Revo Stage 2 | Revo Stage 2 Intake | Milltek 3" TB Exhaust | SuperPro Anti Lift Kit | H&R ARB's | Bilstein B12 | TT Short Shifter |Mintex M1144 Race Pads | HEL Braided Lines |

High pressure oil feed line can leak too but that sprays oil every were.
have a look at my oil leak thread and my diverter valve thread.

I bet its the diverter valve as nealy all early cars l ive seen have this issue. Replacing the diverter valve fixed mine.

a garage will tell you its the turbo as thats what it indicates but its not. Just a warning.

Cool, I will have a look at that, I will take it to my local VAG specialist first before going to the stealers, how much was it to replace if you don't mind me asking.

fixed by replacing diverter valve. Been alright since. Infact had it on the lift today to double check.

fixed by replacing intake pipe under warrenty
Then the cam position sensor on the front of the head that was oil leaking, oil was running round the cam cover gasget and dripping off the rear of the engine onto the diverter valve area.
Then replaced diverter valve to fix the leak as in other thread.
