LSG here so don't get any "look at me attention".

Wouldn't scream after anyone anyway as I am the wrong side of 40 and save it for my enjoyment on open roads/trackdays...

I find the only people who want to race me are other BMW drivers.9 times out of 10 in 320d's  with M badges on the back.
But for the vast majority of the time no one bothers me at all.

Seriously try swapping out of an LSG and jumping into a lapis blue R with an open intake. Get some serious sh!t flying around me. None of it is of any issue for the little golf though (thanks to DTUK). Very little attention from anyone who would actually stand a chance. Just boy racers in corsa VXRs mainly. I must admit, I would sometimes like to fly under the radar a bit more.

Hate to say it, but recently I've noticed a large majority of cars being driven by complete bellends seem to be from the VAG stable. Sad state of affairs.

I don't think VAG ever had a qualifying exam for ownership...

They are the second largest manufacturer in the world, so of course morons own their product.

I found with the GTI people were generally quite friendly towards it and always had nice things to say about it. It drew a lot of compliments.
The R seems to be completely invisible to 90% of the population and the only questions I get asked tend to be along the lines of "is it a Diesel?" The odd person I can be bothered to explain to that it's a 300 bhp (give or take) 4WD car tend to be really surprised and completely unaware that VW even make such a thing. The other 10% tends to be split between those that have a quiet acknowledgement to what it is and a knowing nod, and those that see four tail pipes and immediately decide to do something stupid or reckless.

I have not had any acknowledgement for my GTI until today just a few hours ago.  I was driving past Launceston in miserable weather returning home from a knackering day surfing and cruised past a white GTD MK7 on the dual carriageway, not going too fast by the way, who gave me a friendly flash of the lights as I pulled in to the same lane in front of him.  If it was anyone on this forum, nice car
