Not for a MK7 but for a MK6. I would imagine they would be the same.

It looks like its a plastic rivet that holds them on

Sorted it. The middle of the plastic rivet pushes out :)

From behind? And can you just push it back in to make the holder tight again? As I've been toying with doing something to them and need it off.

Does anyone know how big the holes are that this mount creates on the bumper? Also where these holes are?

I want to run a smaller plate as my private reg has fewer characters so I'm having a narrower plate made up.  Due to this I don't want the original black plastic holder. If the holes are at the edge of the holder I will need to get them filled and painted

The link above shows where the holes are positioned. Its the same in the mk7.

I'm in exactly the same boat with the smaller plate.

What colour is your car? If its black you will be fine as you won't notice the plate holder. I'm toying with wrapping mine.

Cheers mate. My car will be black. I've already told the dealer no drilling any holes which he has noted down but I think I'm going to take a couple of extra stickers to put on the bumpers when I view the car before they pdi it saying do not drill and take some plate stickers to put in the glove box.

I'll take delivery then look at sorting the front plate out.

That was the same as me. I asked them not to drill the plates but stick them on. They actually had the plates in the car with double sided tape so I could put them on and know they hadn't been drilled underneath!

My last car before the Golf, I told them again from the onset not to drill my plates. I also reminded them with every email and was assured this wouldn't happen.  So when my car arrived and had been PDI'd the dealer (100 miles away) sent me pictures of it and yes you've guessed it, they had been drilled on. They had to get it smart repaired before I even picked it up!!!

The plate holder is actually gloss black so you won't need to take that off as I think with the contour of the bumper a plate wouldn't sit right without it.

The plastic rivet things need to be pushed through from the front, this basically destroys the rivet.

If i remember there are 5 holes pre drilled to hold the number plate holder from the factory. 4 on the outsides and 1 in the centre.

Anything smaller than a standard number plate will show these holes.
