strange DSG behavior - help!!!
« on: 26 July 2015, 16:21 »
hi

so i was driving this morning for a couple of minutes, i was in second gear and suddenly the D2 disappeared from my MFD, the car kept moving but i couldn't down/upshift.  I pulled and stopped, switched off, and switched back on.  The issue seemed to disappear.

Any experience with that?  The only time i experienced something remotely related to this was when i had a mechatronic failure although about 60 thousand miles ago, but that time i was left with an empty gear and couldn't move the car at all (the mechatronic unit was changed under warranty from dealer).

thanks

Do you have VCDS, or somebody local to you who can do a scan for you. When was the last DSG service?

no i don't have access to VCDS unfortunately, i'd have to drive to my garage.  Last DSG service (oil change etc) was about 20k miles ago. Next one is due in 15k miles or so.

Early in my ownership I had a couple of experiences whereby the DSG (in Drive) wouldn't change up or down, but the gear was still displayed on in the MFD.  It just seemed to get stuck, in D2 iirc.  On both occasions I pulled over and switched off the engine, restarted and all was ok.  I think this was before the car's first service and it hasn't happened since then (2 years ago), so maybe something done at service sorted it.  I also remember it being very jerky in Sport but again, that disappeared following service.

Hope you get it sorted.

that provides some comfort, i hope it's nothing, i cant afford another month+ without the car plus whatever expenses... I took it for a ride earlier, no sign of it...

If this is the first time it's happened, I'd forget about it for now.  If it happens again, say more than twice, then get it checked out
