Swapping from a Gti to an R
« on: 17 July 2015, 20:18 »
I know quite a few of you guys have done it, but im interested to know just how much it costs!

I got my Gti on 31st May. If I chopped it in for an R, would I need another big deposit and what would I be looking at paying per month? I put down £3k for the Gti and pay £312 a month.

Not unimpressed, but thinking perhaps after having had 2 gti's already I should maybe have stretched to the R this time.

Yeah I get what you mean.  Apart from scratching the well know itch, that's partly why I went for an R.  After three GTIs, it had to be something (a little) different.

Hope you can get the figures to work for you.

31st May just there as in 7 weeks ago?

I reckon you would lose a fair chunk of cash.
Taking your car out the equation just now you can get a 3dr manual 7R for £26,881 from DTD
If you use the VW configurator calculator, it recommends a deposit of £3082 on a full price R. So if you add the discount from DTD which is £3,857 to the VW recommended deposit your £60 short of a £7000 deposit.
So putting the £7k as a deposit you'll be £354 a month over 36 months. That's obviously with you adding £3k of your own money.

You still have to pay off your old GTI. I wouldn't imagine you would have an equity on it at all despite putting £3k down.

Realistically I'm dreaming. I'm still skint after buying the Gti!

Maybe wait a bit for the 40 anniversary model instead?
