Hi all, another discussion. I've been reading a few websites which explain that the European union is apparently taking the UK government to court over failing to meet stringent emission targets.
Now a lot of what I have read seems to either be scare tactics or just plain misinformation, however Major of London, Boris Johnson, has reportedly already stated that he wants to charge "older" diesel cars £10 extra for the city congestion charge. There are also talks over increasing taxation though revising VED banding and well as more tax on Diesel fuels for motorists -it would seem then that Diesels are the sole cause of pollutants in the world, and power stations and petrol engines -(which are still numerically in the greater numbers) etc. , are blame free

So, we are the sole cause of the worlds problems it seems (or at least that's what the tabloids would have us believe).
There is also talk that all manufacturers will have to comply with the new Euro 6 emission standards. As I understand it, the Diesel engines used in the MK7 (MQB) platform are all Euro 6 compliant, and certainly the GTD EA288 unit is most definitely a Euro 6 lump.
that being the case, what are the thoughts about a) the implications affecting owners of Euro 6 (and older standard cars) with regards to higher motoring costs in the future and b) will this result in a mass exodus from Diesels to either petrol or PHEV power units, and will that ultimately send the prices of second hand (and potentially new) diesel cars plummeting ?
